Fishing: Consolidated these two days into one since it was the same scenario and close to each other.

Tuesday: Decided to check out Deer Creek since I have been fishing the local reservoirs when I have a partial day. Enjoying the pram and just fishing around nobody but the lake idiots. This was the first time I had been on Deer Creek after reading about it having bigger fish than others and the DWR app showing fish in the 16-17” range as opposed to the 10-12” planters you see elsewhere. Also was interested in the inlet with potential pre spawn aggro browns. Started out trolling from the marina and immediately hooked up with a good 16-17” bow on the double rainbow. Hooked another one on that fly or the sculpin don’t recall. Was trolling with one short fast sinktip and one full sink type 3 or so. They ate both. Marked fish around the tip of the now out of the water island and hooked a few around each side. Trolled around to other side and fished some rocks to no avail. Trolled up into inlet, spotted tons of carp so threw a few casts at them but they were super oriented to the surface sucking algae or whatever, so no dice. Headed to inlet and anchored up. Nymphed the first big drop out of the river where it was meeting the lake. Stuck a few pretty quickly on the balanced leech, pumped one and it was full of red midge larvae. Wadered up and fished up and down through the first riffles with the streamer but didn’t hook shit. Fished the bobber a bit more and stuck a couple more. Mostly good sized bows 16-18” on the bobber. It was getting dark, so trolled back to the truck. Stuck a few more on the troll on the way back on the rainbow. Saw a bunch of big chironomids around on the surface as the wind let up, so figure if you found where they were concentrated early in the day it could be good.

Friday: Went back up hoping to find some fish on the strip. Trolled out and around the island again and ended up sticking a few, but not as many as Tuesday. Didn’t throw the rainbow trout though, maybe should have. Had one rod on the double goldilox and stuck one that was making some powerful headshakes on the rod but it came unbuttoned before I could grab it. No other grabs on that one, the rest were on the sculpin on the troll. Headed to the inlet and anchored up. Threw the balanced leech again and immediately was into fish. Stuck a few good bows, pumped one again and again stuffed with red midge larva and some giant ones at that, also a full size worm. Tied on the worm behind the leech and stuck a super hot pretty sweet brown on the worm. Tried the leech on the full sink and nada. Put the bobber back on and stuck a few more, then back to the full sink doing laps but no dice with the strip for whatever reason. Eventually the bobber slowed and it was getting dark, so made one last lap with the sculpin through all the drops and inlet but nada. Can’t get them to eat the stripped fly for some reason. With the bellys chuck full of those midge larva, maybe they don’t want to move. Want to get there in the am and see whats up. Trolled back to the truck at full speed, no more eats probably too fast.

  • One of the better bows

  • Bow on the balanced leech

  • Nice lake brown on the worm

  • midge larva from Tuesday

  • midge larva and big full size worm from friday
