Duchesne River Hanna June 22nd, 2014

Date / Time: Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 11:00-3 pm Location: Duchesne River Hanna. Hanna Post Office The Characters: Kory & Lee K Weather: Breezy, partly sunny 70s Water Temp: Mid 50s guess Water Level: Coming down around 100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear Moon Phase: 3 days after first quarter Best Flies: Drake cripple parachute tie over #14 200r, some on BDE Fishing: Went up with dad after previous day getting them killer, but not seeing any bugs. Wanted to get there in time for the hatch so got there around 11am and drakes were coming off when we hit the water pretty good. Walked up into run right above access and several pigs were up right there on river right edge chowing drakes. Let dad fish and he missed one and then banged a pretty big fish, so good start. A guide and his client peeked through the bushes and saw us so snuck up around the corner to jump ahead of us, think it was Jeff Harwin fuckface. After that we headed downriver up and over the hill to the big long killer pool dad had broke one off on week previous. Drakes were all over and fish were going strong. Worked down the pool and landed several good fish. Dad got a few at top, but wasn’t super dialed. I walked down with him into shallow drop off that looked killer to me previously. Sure enough fish up in there, he missed the first one and then I left him to work them think he didn’t end up getting any. I spotted a pig on the far bank sipping tight and worked him and ultimately got the slow mo killer eat and stuck him. Good battle 20” or so killer hook jaw fish. Eventually worked back upriver and drakes were tapering off around 1. Spotted a pig in the shallow off of the small pool above and re rigged dad to the cripple. He made a couple casts, killer eat, stuck the fish for a second and off. Went up into big pool below access and there were sporadic fish up still. Dad was at bottom and I worked into middle. Dad hooked a pig and broke it off, frustrated. Dad spotted another one on far bank under tree and snagged his fly. I went ahead and fished to it and got him, good fish. Got dad’s fly off and then helped him work the fast pockets and guided him into a good 18 incher that took in heavy water that don’t think he even saw. Got that fish and dad was stoked. Left him there and he got another fish. I worked up into pools above and blind fished and got a few more pigs and ended on a good 18 incher in the shallow by the fence that I had missed day before. Killer day, headed out around 3:30 pm.
