Duchesne River Hanna June 8th, 2014

Date / Time: Sunday, June 8th, 2014 pm Location: Duchesne River Hanna. Access at white bridge up to post office. The Characters: Kory & Brian Weather: Partly Cloudy 70s, slightly windy. One rain shower. Water Temp: Mid 40s guess Water Level: Coming down around 180 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Fairly clear, but slightly off color Moon Phase: Two days after last quarter Best Flies: Copper bead tungsten biot stone peacock dubbing body #10-#12. Chubby chernobyl 12 I think. Fishing: Headed up with BK, got to river a little before 11. Water was dropping and seemed like it could just start to be getting good. Looked awesome. Looked at a few accesses and there was 2 cars in white bridge, but we fished that anyway. Seined and picked up rocks and there were drake nymphs all over looking pretty close to hatching. Thought there would be golden stones, but despite picking up endless sticks, rocks and seining all I ever got was drakes and caddis. Fished the chubby with the smaller stone dropper anyway and we were getting them sporadically on the stone. Started out slower, but eventually figured where they were and hammered them pretty good. Got a handful to eat the chubby including my biggest around 19-20. Most fish were 14-16 with an occassional bigger one. I got all browns, BK got a few cutties and one pig rainbow about 19-20. We dropped his car off at the post office and fished the entire stretch. Fish were mostly in shallows and on edge of pools and anywhere it was slow. Water had just dropped over past several days so fish were probably acclimitizing. Wind howled at first and we got a rain shower, but didn’t last too long. Good day all in all with most fish on the dropper. Got a few on the drake nymph, but nothing on any other patterns despite trying a few diff things. Ended around 6, so fished about 5.5 hrs.
