Date / Time: Monday, April 27, 2015 Location: Green Below Fontenelle. Checked out lower river at six mile hill and it was blown out from a rain storm, so headed up and ended up on Gold’s Bar. The Characters: KK, Matt Olson Weather: Sunny, high 50s to low 60s super nice day Water Temp: Guessing low 40s. Water Level: 1700 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Moderate to good Moon Phase: 3 days before first quarter Hatches: BWOs Best Flies: Larva Lace worm, lead eye leech, BWO cripple, BWO nymphs Fishing: Drove up with Matt and Anna in his car to Green River, dropped Anna off at Kat’s house for the day and headed up. Plan was to fish lower and worm em up, looking for lake fish concentrations like I had done with BK a few years previous. When we stopped at six mile hill access river was chocolate which was odd considering it was clear in Green River. We figured it was a rain squall and headed upriver, it was in good shape at Farson Bridge and we drove up from there. Ultimately we ended up at Gold’s Bar since we had limited time. Road was all wet and there were deep puddles above Hay Farm on the road to Gold’s. When we got down to the river, we started sliding all over and got stuck as we pulled in. IMG_1667 After pulling sagebrush, sticks and other debris and going back and forth for an hour we got the truck out and went fishing. We ultimately got fishing around 12:30. When we got to the water, BWOs were coming off and actually some risers which I hadn’t seen much of this time of year. I worked them and got one decent bow and then a decent Colorado cutt that actually ripped. Fished up through the rocks and got several good fish on the worm and some on the lead leech. Matt got into a few on BWO nymphs so I put one on and got a few on that. Crossed and fished down and got several more fish on the worm. Eventually found more risers and got another good cutty. Worked down and threw the streamer a bit and got one good grab. Found no more risers and Matt hadn’t really got into them, but we had to go so headed back up and out.
