Green Below Fontenelle August 19th, 2018

Date / Time: Sunday, August 19th 2016 1pm-3pm Location: Green Below Fontenelle. Above Weeping Rock CG & Drop Off Above Island Camping Area Below Weeping Rock The Characters: KK Weather: Sunny 80s. Water Temp: Didn’t measure, guessing mid 50s Water Level: Around 1200 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: Day after 1st Quarter Hatches: Lots of Caddis in bushes, Occasional PMD (on water late) Best Flies: None Fishing:  Had been at Red Canyon for weekend with Tammy and Anna and drove separate so headed up for afternoon on way home hoping for similar trip to this one in 2016 . When I got there I had contemplated stopping lower on way up but never did. I had looked at river in Green River and actually spotted a fish in a side channel but didn’t fish. There were piles of hoppers down there along bank. Drove to bank above river above Weeping rock and dudes were in there nymphing which was expected. I saw a few fish from the cliff but one of the dudes was on a mission charging down the bank wading through any prospective fish so I decided to go lower and throw the hopper along the drop. I was wanting to fish hoppers unless lots of risers so thought that would yield a fish. I pounded the drop and nobody was there although a boat was a 1/2 mile down having gone through but I don’t think that mattered. I threw the hopper all over along the drop, in the corner around the boulders and only got one fish to swirl at it that had risen. There were virtually no risers and it was calm and nothing wanted the hopper and I didn’t want to fish any other way so I headed out to try Ham’s. Bust of a trip, but satisfied the curiosity.
