Green Below Fontenelle August 16, 2014
**Date / Time:**Saturday August 16, 2014 Location: Float #1 from Dodge to Hay Farm. Float #2 Dam to Slate The Characters: Kory, Jason Curry, Brett Johnston Weather: Sunny, warm 80s Water Temp: High 60s Water Level: 1800 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Moderately clear, drifting moss increasing as we got lower and it got hotter **Moon Phase:**Day before last quarter Hatches: Tricos. Some PMDs. Caddis in evening Best Flies: Beadhead stonefly nymph #12 **Fishing:**Floated dodge to hay farm since water was still high even though typically by this time of year the lower river is no good. Turns out even at higher water it’s still pretty tough. We got fish here and there on droppers and an occasional eat on the big dry, but overall pretty slow. Probably would have done better if we got out and worked the dry dropper in a few spots, but we stuck to the drift. Brett was hitting the capt. Morgan pretty hard so by end of float was quite tipsy. Decided to get off around 3 and head upriver to float dam to slate creek where we were camped. By then Brett was hammered and he insisted on swimming with the boat and bouncing bottom as opposed to rowing which severely dampened the fishing. We got a handful of fish on droppers and some eats on the dry but if we had been able to fish well probably would have done a lot better. There were caddis around but his drunkenness got us off the water early. Brian was floating with Becky behind us way back but we didn’t see him as a result of our situation. Eventually he showed up and we fished across from the campground for the last 30 minutes of light and there were some good fish up on caddis, but we got there so late they went down. BK got one medium sized cutty but that was it. Overall lame day with good potential in afternoon and evening ruined by drunk guy Brett.
