**Date / Time:**Sunday August 17, 2014 8am-7pm Location: Float from dam to Slate Creek The Characters: Kory, Jason Curry in our boat. BK, Beck and Brett Johnston in their boat. Weather: Sunny, warm 80s Water Temp: High 60s Water Level: 1800 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Moderately clear, some driftingh moss, but not bad up on this section **Moon Phase:**Last quarter Hatches: Sporadic PMDS, Tricos, Callibaetis Best Flies: Beadhead stonefly nymph #12, Chubby Chernobyl, Fat Albert Fishing: Floated dam to slate, got on water later than we wanted around 9. Fish were up in the second afterbay on callibaetis and I hooked one right away on the fat albert and lost it. We worked around in there and I got a couple of mid size fish and put the bigger ones down. There were some good fish in there though. We killed an hour doing that for minimal. Worked down and got one half hearted eat on the fat albert in big flat. BK and Brett had found a couple risers but nothing to write home about. We worked down looking for risers fishing dry dropper and found minimal and hooked nothing until bottom of Jerome flat where Jason hooked and lost one. Stopped at car body and decided to work the dry dropper. Spotted a couple big risers on far bank. Jason got one on dropper first and then we got back in boat. I dragged boat over and realized I could get best drift just wading to big sipper off point. Put a few drifts over and stuck that fish and it jumped and ripped into moss breaking me off. I had low vantage which made it tough, should have fished out of boat. It was a pig rainbow. Got back in boat worked another riser, but decided to give them break and go back and fish dry drop on foot while waiting on those. I stuck a pig that ripped me all around and came off, then stuck another fat smaller bow and landed it. Jason got another one or two on the drop. All fish landed on stone I think. Went back to work risers and ended up hooking and missing each one. Overall I think I went 1 for 6 in the side channel only landing the decent bow on the drop. Worked downriver and spotted a couple risers off the moss below confluence of car body channel. Anchored and Jason thought I was too close, but I was looking at fish close to moss while he had seen one further out. He put a few test drifts over with PMD cripple and a fish ate further out and ripped him into backing. He had a knot go through guide and I got it undone while we let the fish chill. Ultimately he landed it, a killer brown around 20 inches. Looked for risers in side channel along dirt cliff and found nada. Worked down with dropper and hooked another nice bow and lost it on stone. Ultimately were going to try and hit water in front of posted land with trailers, but dudes camped out in it nymphing. We decided to hit side channel above and Jason hooked on on dropper at top and lost it, then I think I hooked one on dropper, but don’t remember. Then got a nice super fat bow on chubby down lower, cool eat with a slurping gulp noise. Jason hooked one more on dropper and got that one. Guys were still camped out so we moved on. Threw the streamer a bit for nada, think I was too deep with the line or something. Didn’t fish it long enough to figure out though. Stopped above small farm sidechannel on left and switched back to dropper, made a few casts upriver where we had just anchored and stuck a nice bow and landed it. Fished down through sidechannel and Jason missed a big eat after it makes a hard right against the bank. He stuck one right after that on dropper and it was a huge brown that jumped and came off. Easily 21 plus. Worked down through and J got several eats on dry on drop at bottom above confluence. He got one fat cutty and missed the others. I jumped up and got a fat bow on dropper there but no more dry eats. Fished the confluence seam and the drop shoal in the middle below there and got another cutty on dry. Got out and worked the shoal and I missed one big eat, Jason lost one on drop but that was it. Worked down and got one more cutty on dry, another smaller one. Jason got up and I remember him hooking and losing one but don’t remember details. He tangled in last sidechannel and I anchored and fished while he was tangled, landed another fat bow on the stone dropper for a closer. Jason fished it out and we got no more. On water longer than planned and never saw BK and group after car body. Good day, but had to work for them a bit. Think PMDs may have been good by dam, but don’t know. Never did see much on the tricos oddly.
