Green Below Fontenelle December 7, 2014

Date / Time: Sunday, December 7, 2014 9:30am - 3pm Location: Green Below Fontenelle. Wade fishing Riff Raff channel and car body hole by dam later. The Characters: Solo run KK Weather: Sunny, mid 40s some breeziness but not bad. Unusually warm for December which is why I went for it. Water Temp: Guessing high 30s to low 40s. Water Level: 1100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal Moon Phase: Day after full moon Hatches: N/A Best Flies: Red v rib worm, chartreuse bead egg. Fishing: Drove up for day since the weather was so nice and Tammy took Anna for the day after we spent the previous day together. Also planned to be back to spend evening which is why I left at 3. Headed to riff raff thinking there would be some residual brown spawn, but never saw anything. Fished streamers at first from top down and broke one off at the top on blood leech must have been shitty knot since I barely even had the fish and it broke. Had one other eat, but that was it and worked it hard all through the channel. had a floating line, but still had weighted flies and was fishing slow so thought I would find some but no go despite trying various colors. Fished only small flies though leeches and buggers no big streamers, maybe should have although the cold water led me to believe they wouldn’t really be on it. At the bottom rigged the chartreuse bead egg with worm trailer up and hooked a few bows on egg but kept getting them outside. Think I had too much depth so shortened and adjusted. Pounded all of the upper end and only hooked one and lost it, maybe one other. Spent a lot of time here for little reward, think they weren’t on the egg for whatever reason and should have mixed it up better. Had time to hit one more spot and headed up by dam ending up on the car body hole. Worked it until I found where they were which was in the slow deep middle part. Hooked quite a few, lots of whiteys and one super fat nice bow and another mid sized bow. They were much more on the worm which led me to believe I should have done more of that down lower. Messed around there for an hour and a half or so and hooked quite a few, hit the drop below there before I left and hooked a few more whiteys but that was it. Decent day, but didn’t really dial it in. Based on previous winter days, should have focused more on the worm and other stuff but was stuck on the egg.
