Green Below Fontenelle March 20, 2016
Date / Time: Sunday, March 20 2016 Location: Green Below Fontenelle. Golds Bar and stretch below islands below riff raff. OCI at end of day. The Characters: KK, Matt Olson, BK Weather: Sunny, warm in the 50s. Water Temp: Didn’t measure, guessing low to mid 40s Water Level: Around 984 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: 3 days before full moon Hatches: Midges Best Flies: Larva lace worm Fishing: Drove up for day with Matt and BK. Stopped and had breakfast in Kemmerer because it was in the teens still despite daytime highs forecast in 50s. We fished Gold’s bar first, Brett had already fished it with his dad and didn’t do much. We worked up through and got them good. Lots of fish on redds and behind redds, worm was on fire. Fish would race over to it. Messed with streamers some and hooked a few, but they weren’t into it even dead drift. After pounding them there for a bit, we headed up to the stretch below riff raff islands and nobody there or in sight and we crushed them all through there, many beasts. Matt had a bit of a struggle as visibility was getting tougher and he wasn’t seeing them as well. I hit several good fish not anywhere near redds and those fish were the best rippers, clean and bright. The worm was by far the best and they were all over it. After pounding them there for a while, we hit the OCI bridge area for an hour on the way out. It was spotty there, hooked a few but nothing special. Good day, typically March day.
