Green Below Fontenelle November 8, 2014

**Date / Time:**Saturday, November 8, 2014 11am - 5pm Location: Green Below Fontenelle. Wade fishing channels below riff raff, gold’s bar and a bit above the refuge HQ. The Characters: Solo run KK Weather: Sunny, high 40s some breeziness in afternoon. Pretty pleasant for this time of year. Water Temp: Guessing low to mid 40s Water Level: 1100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal **Moon Phase:**2 days after full moon Hatches: N/A Best Flies: Green eye mohair leech, beadhead blood leech Fishing: Drove up for day for some hydrotherapy. Wasn’t sure I was going to go until last minute and didn’t leave the house til almost 9. Drove to the slate creek bridge first to look at water and saw at least 3, maybe 4 drift boats which was bullshit for this time of year. Also some wade dudes, definitely a different place than it used to be…Drove down river to Gold’s Bar and saw a truck going toward the spot as I was on the highway, more frustration of crowds. Guess it was prime brown spawn and killer weather but still. As I drove up, saw there was another truck there too so went up river to the turnoff that puts you on the channels by the old cabin below riff-raff which had nobody. Had a floating line and leech stuff on from the Provo so just went with it. Fished through the first drop and got a good bow there and hooked another one I think. Worked down through the sidechannel with my eye on the redd on the far side that is a gimme for rainbows and cutties. Got over there and looked at everything and never saw a single brown anywhere near any of it…weird. Worked down through and got hammered in front of one of the big boulders fishing slow and erratic with the slow sinking flies. Nice rainbow that ripped the shit out of me. Worked through all the rocks and got more. Would fish dead drift and slow strips erratic and hooked several so just stuck with it instead of getting dirty with eggs and hooked quite a few fish. No browns and nothing huge, but good fun. Eventually headed back to truck and drove down to gold’s bar to see if the dudes left. One truck still there but not fishing. Worked up through and hooked a few more on the leech combo, but saw nada on the redds. Ultimately didn’t hook a lot through there but a few. Saw one fish on redd in channel by car, but nothing else. Maybe it got raped…who knows. Drove down and cars in every spot even though it was late. Ultimately fished spot above the refuge and wanted to nymph just because I hadn’t yet. Saw one dead Kokanee, but light was low. Put on the dirty bead and immediately hooked fish in mid river slot. Hooked several and landed a couple nice bows but again no browns. Ultimately went back to leech and got a few bows but never found the trophy browns that everyone else seems to hook. Fun day of soul fishing though.
