Green River Below Flaming Gorge 11-21-2014
Date / Time: November 21st, 2014 2pm-4:30pm Location: Green River Utah Little Hole. Across from 3rd ramp in Larry’s Corner primarily The Characters: Solo Weather: Sunny, warm around 50 Water Temp: Listed at 47 release from dam on USGS Water Level: 1400 cfs while I was there, fluctuating daily Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal Moon Phase: Day before New Moon Hatches: Some midges Best Flies: Fished bead eggs exclusively. Washed out pale colors in larger size was best. Fishing: We drove up in the morning, Tammy took the day off so I could fish and we could get there early. By the time I got down there after getting into the room it was already about 2 but stellar weather. Water was a lot higher than it had been years previous during this time. Started out at ramp and hooked one or two, but not much compared to normal with the higher water. Waded across and pounded Larry’s and hooked a bunch of fish but it took some messing around with weight and indicator distance. Eventually found the fish in the tailout glassy water before it moved into the chute the most willing. Got some super quality fish that were not spawned out. Hooked fish throughout, but that area was the best. Had to use a little more weight than normal and slightly deeper but still only a 3-4 foot rig or so. Fish were in great shape and battled very well, after looking at water temp and writing this a few weeks later that may have helped. Got mostly browns but some rainbows, not as many as in years past.
