Green River Flaming Gorge 4-19-2013
Date / Time: 4/19/2013 2:30-7ish. Location: Little hole wading. The Characters: Kory. Weather: Overcast with showers and rain. Water Temp: low 40s guess Water Level: Low around 840 Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: Just after new moon. Fishing: Headed down to C section since I had fished everywhere over the past week. The evening before it was good clarity as Brian and I floated through so I thought all good…wrong! As I rounded the corner and Brown’s Park came into view, chocolate milk. Thought about walking in to Red Creek but wasn’t into it solo. Headed back up to Little Hole. Fished right in front of the 3rd ramp since every other day had passed this up despite hundreds of risers and blanket bugs. Stuck several nice, hot quality fish and moved on. Hopscotched down and actually didn’t dial it in very well until I got down into Minnesota. Kept spooking or missing my opportunities including spooking the pigs on the lower left below T3. Ultimately got into some killer fish in Minnesota including a giant that was sipping by some rocks that BK and I missed the day previous. It stayed calm and the hatch was ballistic and lasted with the drizzly overcast. As the hatch waned, I walked back up and navigated around the cliffs on river left. Looked down and spotted some giant rainbows nymphing (good future reference point). Got to the mini island sidechannel and there were several pigs rising to remnant BWOs and midges coming back to lay eggs. Ended up being a miss fest and had about 15 good fish eat and missed every one except one I think. After I had a killer session earlier. Kept working up and the fish started going ballistic on the midges as it got later with the overcast damp conditions. Eventually left to go get dinner, but could have stayed and crushed into dark. Phenomenal day.
