This day was my fishing day, but had a leisurely morning and got down to Little Hole around noon. Wanted to take Anna for her first fishing foray with the Baby Bjorn since the weather was nice and I knew the fishing would be stellar. She was a bit tired, so it wasn’t ideal timing but she hung in there. Walked below Little Hole into the obvious pools and hatch had started and fish were up solid. Hooked one fairly quickly and lost it and then hooked another nice 18 incher and landed it with Anna on the pack, her first fish! She was interested in it, but quite tired. After that, she and Tammy headed back to Flaming Gorge Lodge where we were staying. I made my way down and fished the small side channel river left before river goes around cliffs. Stuck a pig that I had to work hard at in a tough bank-side drift and then banged a bunch more where the side channel came back to the main river. They were up good on BWOs. Got a few nice bows too. Cripple parachute was best. Crossed the river and walked down but wasn’t seeing much and there were two dudes below so I crossed again and made my way down to Minnesota. Missed a pig under one of the cliffs river left at the top 3 times on different flies and never did hook him. Got several others in various spots. As I got down to top of flatter water, fish really started to go off. Had a few hours of killer fishing although not as many bigger fish out in the middle. Still fun. They ate various patterns. Made my way back up and walked up and over the cliff and down to the top of the little side channel just to see. It was about 5pm by then and I was meeting Tam at 5:30. I got down and they were going ballistic in the flat water top of the channel. Stuck several more there on the #18 sparkle dun and ended my last cast on a pig 19 incher or so. Awesome afternoon!
