Cowboy bar area first then around Jarvie and Taylor’s Flat Bridge The Characters: Kory, Anna, Tammy Weather: Mostly sunny 80s, then cloudy and calm with T Storm moving in Water Temp: Mid 50s guess Water Level: Around 1700 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear Moon Phase: Day before first quarter Best Flies: Cicada #10, barred sili legs widows web wing and hackled belly. PMD cripple, floating pmd nymph. Fishing: Stayed previous night at Red Canyon, only had the one night and packed up in the morning to head to Kemmerer. Anna got us up early at around 6:30, so we got everything together, had breakfast and made a plan. Was going to float, but logistics sounded too difficult. Instead since it was early and the time was negligible to drive from Little Hole vs. C section, I decided to go to C since Cicadas had been around and sallies, pmds and caddis should have been in full force. Hit Cowboy Bar initially and Tammy napped while I took out Anna in the pack. Heard some clicker cicadas in the trees and went with that. Found a Green Drake floating at first which was the first ever I have seen on the green. Never saw another though. Worked up through big pool, got one eat in the pockets below but nothing in the big pool. Saw a fish working at the top and put the cicada over it, but refused. Fish kept rising, so switched to the pmd cripple and instantly hooked it, decent 16” brown. Worked up the bank and switched back to the Cicada. Stuck several good fish including one very big one in super shallow water that chowed it instantly. Fish were all in very shallow water for the most part. Missed several too and landed several. Got one good one on the way down out further that ripped super hard, the bank feeders were fighting a bit less as they had likely been messed with. Also got several refusals caused by same thing. After an hour or so, went back to car and dropped Anna with Tammy. Went back out for 20 minutes or so and fished up through the pockets below the ramp. Hooked several others and missed some big fish through there. After that, headed up to Jarvie so Tammy could hang with Anna on lawn while I fished. Drove over Taylors Flat Bridge and there were several rising in the corner. Tammy was pumping in the car, so I jumped out quickly and stalked them. Stuck a good 17-18 ripper and the rest went down. I could see more rising up higher though and pmds were coming off decently. Dropped Tammy and worked down the bank. Found risers in first rock outcropping, but super spooky. Stalked them though and got two nice ripping hot fish almost into backing on one of them. Both of those I think were on cripple, don’t remember maybe floating nymph. At this point it was cloudy and perfect but T storm looming. Crossed and worked up, and spotted a few good fish but they were sporadic and didn’t see them again. Found one more and got that one a good 16 inch fish or so. After that, bugs were subsiding and I worked up through the rapid etc. and never saw another riser. Didn’t have my big bugs with me unfortunately. Eventually walked back to car and headed out. Good couple sessions of fishing.
