Green River Below Flaming Gorge A Section 2-16-2014

Date / Time: 9:00 AM to 3pm February 16, 2014 Location: A Section float The Characters: Kory & Lee K Weather: Mostly sunny, warm and breezy off and on. About 50 degrees at one point. Water Temp: High 30s guess Water Level: Low 800 cfs or so Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear Moon Phase: Just after full Best Techniques: Nymphing and dries, streamers so so. Best Flies: Olive sculpin with black rabbit. Brown bead for nymph, trailing shuck midge dry. Fishing: Launched around 9 and we were the only boat. Not even another car in parking lot. Threw streamers hard, but fish weren’t on it very well at all. Eventually tried a fast retrieve and they were more into that for whatever reason. Got fish to eat, but it was a lot of work. As day progressed it got better likely because of water temp and the lower end of A section. I kept missing my eats and missed multiple nice fish more than once. I actually didn’t even land one before cecret riffle where we stopped for lunch. The midges were pouring off there, and there were risers so I threw the shallow nymph and banged a bunch of fish on the bead. Then threw the trailing shuck and got one and missed a few others. Fished streamers again after that and continued to miss them. Dad was missing a lot too, but hooking more than me and got some nice once. Ultimately I landed a few. As we we got off the water storm rolling in. We were driving back to Altamont to pick up Tammy so had to get off early. Fun day.
