Green River Fontenelle 4-20-2013

Date / Time: April 20, 2013 11-5ish. Location: Hot spotting from refuge up. Also hit reservoir at end. The Characters: Kory. Weather: Partly sunny and very windy. Water Temp: low 40s guess Water Level: Low around 820 Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: Just after new moon. Fishing: Headed to Fontenelle on way home from week on the Green working mornings and fishing afternoons. Weather had gotten cold, but Wyo forecast was for wind and sun. Uinta basin forecast was calm, I should have headed that direction. Driving 191 ended up being a full on blizzard with zero visibility and a foot of snow on the road…not fun. Eventually as I approached Rock Springs it cleared and was dry. Got to Fontenelle and decided to fish right above refuge, hit a good looking spot and got one 18 brown on streamer black woolhead pretty quick. Then nothing else even worked it around some killer boulders and drops but it was bright sun…who knows? Nymphed some killer looking water but didn’t hook much maybe one whitie. Eventually headed upriver to gold’s bar. Stuck several through there but kept losing them. Eventually pulled a giant off of redd and felt guilty but wanted to land one…greedy I guess. Hooked a few others but kept losing fish. Seemed to be a fair number of people around kept seeing vehicles on the other side parked and fishing. Eventually drove upriver and decided to check reservoir at launch ramp by dam. Got there and looked down and several large bows protecting nest and chasing each other and cruising. Thought it would be killer, tried the streamer but they weren’t interested. Had the egg on, but took it off and fished double bead. Got one or two mid size but they weren’t that interested in that either. Probably would have slayed on the egg but never tried and headed out.
