Green River Fontenelle 7-5-2013
Date / Time: 7-5-2013 Location: Float from Dam to Slate Creek. Looked at river at upper dodge, but grassy and no fish at first glance so decided upper river dam to slate was best choice. The Characters: Kory and BK. Weather: Calm and mostly sunny. Breezy off and on afternoon, but not consistent. Hot weather upper 80s or so. Water Temp: Low 60s guess Water Level: Low around 820 Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: 4 days before new moon. Fishing: Drove up from Altamont, left around 5 and met BK. We were floating two days and camping. I was staying 3 days. We launched at dam and left vehicle at slate creek. Fish were already up when we launched, there were actually a fair number of people around too. First bend big flat stretch below first islands fish were up super good on river left going ballistic on tricos so we stopped there. Got stuck there for hours fishing to bows working up and down left bank. Some fish were picky and ultimately #18 PMD cripple lawsons was best for me. BK got some to eat light colored triple double too and I got fish initially on wullf and PA. Stayed up here until pretty late and then eventually worked our way down.. Fish were up still on PMDs continuously on both sides in eddies on left and seams and flats on right below weeping rock cg. Eventually got stuck again above drop on right with a bunch of big fish up, super selective. Missed a few and didn’t land any of those. Worked down left side and stuck a few more pigs and continued to find fish up in every spot. Kept losing the biggest fish, think I was playing them too hard. Never had to go to 6x but some were incrediply picky while others not so much. Writing this a month later so details of this day and following day mixed a bit. We ended up pulling out and re launching at dam with car in field below weeping rock and fished to there. Initially evening was looking good and we hooked some fish, but t storms moved in and super wind and killed it. Camped down above skunk after driving all over since lots of people. Phenomenal day.
