Green River Fontenelle 7-7-2013
Date / Time: 7-7-2013 Location: Wade fishing in channels around car body. The Characters: Kory. Weather: Calm and mostly sunny. Breezy off and on afternoon, but not consistent. Hot weather upper 80s or so. Water Temp: Low 60s guess Water Level: Low around 820 Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: 2 days before new moon. Bugs: Tricos, PMDs, Caddis, Few Sallies. Fishing: Day 3, BK left night before camped solo on the island. Fish were up on Tricos the second I got up. I was on the water by 7:30, worked up bank in front of camp and immediately got into some pigs on the PA. Worked around down into car body channel, switched to rusty that I fished day before bigger 16 quill body. Hooked several more pigs and was more careful and landed most. They were up all over throughout the channel. Worked down the channel sticking fish down left side. Eventually worked to opposite bank tailout above right two channel split, fish were chowing in moderately fast water cool spot. Stuck several of those on the rusty a few were tougher but most ate the rusty pretty easily. Worked to other side and some fish there too and got one there. Then saw some good fish in river left channel in the shallows. Snuck up and first cast or so fish chowed and ripped straight upriver to top of channel and almost went up into that, battled all over and landed another great fish. Worked up and some pigs up on top of big pool below car body channel again, stuck a few more pigs there and landed them. Eventually worked up to flat above big rock in car body channel. Several giants rising there, very selective. Ultimately hooked a pig on PJs soft hackle rusty spinner and line got tangled in forceps and broke off. Worked hard on them for a while, super selective, ultimately got one on the sprout PMD emerger that went ballistic epic battle and finally landed around 20 incher or so super fat bow. Called it a day on that one and headed home after 3 epic days of non stop dry fly fishing.
