Green River Utah 1-26-2014
Date / Time: 1-26-2014 1pm to 4:30pm Location: Little Hole The Characters: KK, Tammy and Anna Weather: Sunny, breezy, 40s Water Temp: High 30s guess Water Level: Around 800 cfs Low Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal Moon Phase: Few days after last quarter Best Techniques: Dries, eggs Best Flies: Trailing shuck midge, para cripple BWO Fishing: Threw an egg rig on the 3rd ramp for a bit with worm and bead leading, but nada. Fish had largely vacated redds. Fished a pure egg rig on 1st ramp and got one nice brown at top of channel. Then, walked up from Little Hole with Tammy and Anna in the stroller, her first hike! She was all bundled and fell asleep. When we got to the first flat above the riffles I saw a few fish come up sporadically. The wind was pretty gusty but in this area, there was a block so we hung out for a bit. I put on a micro disco dropper behind a P.A. and got one right away. Then noticed quite a few fish up throughout the flat. The wind gusts made it hard to see them, but gusts would die and there were several. Both midges and BWOs were coming off in decent numbers, crazy that BWOs were around in late January but it is the Green. Got a few to eat the P.A. and missed them. Switched to the cripple and missed another. Then switched to a bigger trailing shuck midge and stuck a nice one and landed it and got one other before walking back with Tammy. After that threw the egg around the ramps again but it was just so-so. Eventually walked below Little Hole to the eddies but no fish up so crossed and hit Larry’s for the last 30 minutes and got a few smaller bows but it wasn’t super on. Should have just walked back up to the flat. All in all fun few hours with the girls.
