Green River, Utah: January 1, 2011
Date / Time: 1/1/2012 Location: Floated b section The Characters: Kory Kapaloski, Tammy Stevenson Weather: Sunny high 30s-40s Water Temp: 38-39 (guess) Water Level / Tide: Mid levels 3,000 dropping to about 1,8000 then rising Water Clarity/Quality: Clear Moon Phase: Just before last quarter Fishing: Got on water around 12:30 floated b. Slightly breezy, but basically calm, breeze only occurred off and on and very light. Right away when we hit first slow water and got fly working fish on it. Started with white and they were on it good. Many casts with follows and multiple takes. As would be expected fish were concentrated in deep slow water. Nada elsewhere common winter deal. Ended up being largely on fire with fish almost every cast in slow water. Tammy rowed all day except one 15 minute stretch and she hooked two. Tried other colors and still good but lighter seemed better. In pugs threw the giant articulated tan and gold just to see and still getting eats. Then out of nowhere bottom right pugs huge fish blindsided the fly and got a good look turned out to be a pike and fly wasinstantly severed and sunk to bottom…yep pike. Pretty crazy. Then switched to same fly which was tan over olive uv polar flash sculpins with tan chenille head and that splayed all the way down below red creek…killer day!
