Henrys Fork Idaho 6-14-2013
Date / Time: 6-14-2013. Location: Henry’s Fork Last Chance & Box Canyon. The Characters: Kory Weather: Cool, rainy, windy. Water Temp: mid 50s guess. Water Level: Low around 700. Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: First quarter. Fishing: Got up to Last Chance earlier since the day before I wasn’t there until 11 and fish were already rising so was hoping to hit it as it started. Cold front had come through so temps were in high 40s substantially cooler and breezy, bugs were sporadic and no fish up around 9:30 so decided to check out box and kill some time. Drove into trail and hiked down, no fish rising but found a good slot and nymphed up a few smaller rainbows and one nicer one and some whities. Not a ton of bugs, fish ate the lead head leech and some on smaller bead peacock stone. Headed back down to Last Chance to check it out. More PMDs had started to show up and caddis so wandered around and looked but didn’t see much was fishing Angler’s Lodge area. Made a sandwich and rain was falling and as I walked in carpets of Baetis started showing but no fish were on them, PMDs started to show more. As I was eating sandwich fish started to rise good, headed back out and hooked several nice fish on the PA again. Stayed good with thick bugs for a couple hours. Mike showed up and fished to some of them but didn’t get any, I got one more decent one in front of Angler’s Lodge. Tammy and Megan were driving up and I went down and checked out water in front of Trout Hunter, didn’t see any big fish. Tammy arrived shortly thereafter and wind and rain came in through evening and didn’t fish again.
