Henry's Fork, Idaho Saturday, August 30, 2014

Ashton-Brown

Date / Time: August 30, 2014 Location: Henry’s Fork Below Ashton Dam. Also looked at ranch, but didn’t fish because of T Storm. The Characters: Kory, Tammy, Mike Langford & Megan Weather: Rain showers off and on Water Temp: Mid 60s guess Water Level: USGS flow listed around 1300 Water Clarity/Quality: Mostly clear Moon Phase: Few days before first quarter Hatches: Some PMDs and caddis Best Flies: Olive leech Fishing: Rain most of the morning and we weren’t seriously fishing anyway with the wives and kids. Drove up to Island Park to pick up Mike’s boat and check it out and it was a downpour. I looked at the water but didn’t see anything. Figure if we had stayed could have found some fish, but Tammy and Anna were with me and it was torrential. Dropped the girls off and went to Ashton to look around. Weather was clearing and partly sunny down there. Looked off of the bridge at Ora and spotted several nice fish off the bank and near structure. Went up and hiked down below dam. I spotted a pod of huge fish right in the tailout of the dam pool above some rocks. We crossed in a somewhat sketchy spot since we had gone down the cliffs to the river in a stupid spot and wanted to get across. Worked up and Fished to the fish I saw an had a huge one eat and missed it. Got one nice brown out of there about 18” Ashton-Brown Fished through the drop off and I think I got some more, but don’t remember. Tried a few other colors and Mike got a couple on the white. Decent session, only fished a couple of hours.
