Henry's Fork, Idaho Saturday, August 31, 2014

Date / Time: August 31, 2014 11-2 or so I think Location: Henry’s Fork Below Ashton Dam. The Characters: Kory, Tammy, Mike Langford & Megan Weather: Breezy and mostly sunny, high 60s Water Temp: Mid 60s guess Water Level: USGS flow listed around 1300 Water Clarity/Quality: Mostly clear Moon Phase: Few days before first quarter Hatches: Some PMDs and caddis Best Flies: Olive leech, gold bugger. Large brown bead, cased caddis. Fishing: Headed back to same spot and parked at the easier other (east) side and walked down the hill. Got one to eat in the big pool right away and missed it. Fished across into the spot I had seen the pigs in day previous and had a giant hammer it and missed it. Think I got another follow or eat on way across. Think I was throwing gold bugger, but don’t remember if I had changed yet. Hooked a good fish below the drop and broke it off. Mike was on white and getting them pretty decent. May have had some others, but don’t remember. Worked down through the islands and covered the water thoroughly also looking for risers, but never really saw much. Got a nice bow off the bank on the gold bugger, but don’t think much else. Probably were risers since there were decent numbers of PMDs but I didn’t look super hard. Re rigged the nymph on way back up under the big dry and got several on the brown bead on the drop and a few on cased caddis. Mike was bouncing without an indicator and slaying them on stone nymphs, princes etc. Fun afternoon, not great but decent fishing.
