Henrys Fork & South Fork Snake Idaho 6-22-2013
Date / Time: 6-22-2013. Location: Lower Henry’s Fork, Fun Farm, then South Fork from Woverine to Heise. The Characters: Kory, Aaron Adams, Mike, Zach (mikes friend), Justin (mikes friend). Also Larry Weiss and another guy being guided with Shawn Lawson on South Fork. Weather: Partly sunny, breezy, warming. Water Temp: mid 50s guess. Water Level: Don’t remember Henry’s Fork Ashton gauge says around 2,000 South Fork 13,900 Water Clarity/Quality: clear. Moon Phase: Few days before full. Fishing: In the morning we decided to check out fun farm around 8:30 am. There were a few sporadic risers so we went for it. AA and I rowed up to riffle and I got out and fished big cicada and dropper. Got a nice brown and lost it on cicada then got a nice rainbow on cicada. Hooked a few on peacock stone dropper. Then rowed down and saw some sporadic risers on edge. First few ended up spooking and then got a nice bow that ripped very good on the royal wullf or PA don’t remember. Proceeded down edge and saw some more risers but didn’t get any others and headed to South Fork. Put in around 11, shawn lawson was floating wit Larry Weiss and another guy from flatrock club. We put on and Mike went down river as did shawn and they both immediately started hooking fish on salmonflies. We struggled for a bit and hooked a few here and there. Eventually drakes started pouring off and we got em pretty good, but mostly typical south fork fish small and midsized cutties also small browns a few decent cutties. At lunch we switched around and I ended up with Zack, same story mostly smaller fish with and occasional decent one. Tons of drakes and decent salmonflies. Good day, epic hatch but no real big fish. Fished after dinner at trouthunter went down to millionaires, there were good brown drakes but fish weren’t super up on them. Did find some good fish though and got a few good eats, and hooked one but didn’t land any.
