LC Ranch 3-29-2014

Date / Time: March 29, 2014 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. then again from 5-7 p.m. Location: LC Ranch The Characters: Kory K Weather: Mostly Sunny in the am Water Temp: Low 40s guessing Water Level: Ponds were all full except fisher creek that I saw Water Clarity/Quality: Clear Moon Phase: New Moon Best Flies: Playboy Bunny, Black Leech Fishing: Went to cabin first thing to see if there were giants around as the last few seasons, this pond has produced trophies. Nick hasn’t been planting it much since it gets poached by cabin guests, but he throws a few fish in and they get incredibly big with such a strong food base and zero competition. As a result, they are also fairly difficult to catch. Checked out the grassy beach and sure enough immediately spotted a few giant tigers. Each fish would chase down the black leech and swipe at it but couldn’t get them to eat. Worked around the pond and found another on the far side just past the cabin on the edge where they typically hang. Didn’t blind cast much as I wanted to spot them first. The one I found there did the same thing and cast after cast it would follow and swipe and actutally mouth the fly without every committing. I messed with that fish for 20 minutes and finally got it to eat the Playboy Bunny and hooked it for a second and lost it. Headed up to dog and fished the troll on the way to the inlet and got several bows on the white bugger. Fished the inlet a bit with both the white bugger (playboy) and bead midges and got several more. Had to be back at house for dinner at 3pm so headed back. I fished after dinner and don’t remember if I fished before, but I did fish upper upper lodge and there were a bunch of big cruisers but they were also selective. Hooked a few on the midge and a few on the leech but it was hit and miss. Got one real big tiger. Fished main lodge and there were risers on midges in the inlet area, but I threw the Playboy and they were ridiculously aggressive at it highly entertaining.
