LC Ranch 9-8-3013
Date / Time: 9-8-2013. 10:30am to 2:30pm Location: LC: Cabin, Dog, Upper Fisher, Fisher The Characters: KK and Matt Olson. Jake went out in Cabin with us. Weather: Overcast and calm. 60s. Occasional light rain. Water Temp: Mid to upper 60s. Water Level: Upper ponds were low. Dog was way down with no water moving through. Water Clarity/Quality: Other than lodge pond chain, off color from runoff. Moon Phase: Few days after new Flies: Black crystal bugger. Leeches. Fishing: Went to cabin pond and checked it and saw a nice brown cruising the bank, put ant on it and it wasn’t interested. Got Matt and launched the boat. Saw a few fish make a disturbance in the inlet so headed there. Had the black bugger on with intermediate line. First cast that got all the way in there, immediate hook up, lost one or two then huge 25 plus tiger ate hooked and landed that but it was old and tired. Got another better shape tiger, still not great fight with the warmish water. We checked out other areas, but never hooked any and ultimately back to the inlet, got a few more giants and moved on. Jake ended up getting his finger caught in anchor so we had to attend to that. Matt and I headed up and made a few casts in upper fisher for nada. Launched the boat in dog and trolled across. Got several on the bugger on the troll, water warm though poor fights. Few were up on calibaetis but couldn’t get them to eat the beetle although they would rise once and disappear so not sure how often we even were in front of them. Ultimately switched to callibaetis but same story. Trolled back in and Matt got one. As we were putting boat on trailer, one more rose and I put the thorax on it and got him. Fished fisher creek on way out and got a few risers there near the outlet. Over all slow, with warmer water. Evening or early morning prob would have been best. Matt said lodge chain was good day before on ants, but we didn’t try prob should have with the colder spring water in them…
