LC Ranch April 19-20, 2014

Date / Time: April 19 early am, then evening. April 20 early a.m., then some in the mid day and afternoon. Location: LC Ranch The Characters: Kory K. Lee K, Tammy, Susan, Anna Weather: Mostly Sunny in the am Water Temp: Low 40s guessing Water Level: Ponds were all full except fisher creek that I saw Water Clarity/Quality: Most ponds clear for the most part that I fished. Moon Phase: Few days after full Best Flies: Large brown bead, midge dries, chartreuse eyed olive leech Fishing: Day 1: Fished dog early morning solo on saturday from the boat. Hammered them on the bead and got a few trolling. Fish were up sporadic and I don’t remember how good I got them on the dry. Midges coming off pretty good. Went back for breakfast and hung out for the day until dad and Susan showed up. Went out on cabin with dad and trolled and hooked a giant on the prince behind the leech and battled it forever and lost it. Got a few more there but no big fish. Went out again with family and two boats so ryan, kat, twins, nick and ann in aaron’s boat and me, anna (her first boat trip), tam, my dad and susan in ours. Fishing was just so-so, hooked one nice brown and tammy hooked and lost another. Fished the dog at dusk, but breezy. Still a lot of fish rising on far side and we got them good on the parachute adams and midge cluster pattern. Ryan said far side on the bank was killer. At some point also fished upper, upper lodge and got a few on leech, but they were picky. Day 2: Got up early again and went out on dog with dad. Not as early as previous day, on the water around 7:30 a.m. Trolled the chartreuse eye olive mohair leech and got a few on the way to the outlet corner. Anchored up and fished that there and they were on it good, but you had to get the strip right…erratic with a good long pause. Tried to have dad fish it, but he couldn’t get them. Also threw the double bead on the indicator rod and they were on that good too. Brown big bead and mid size red body. At one point, I cast it out and set it down while throwing the leech and a fish hooked itself and ripped it out of the boat…chaos ensued but we got it back since the line floated. Made our way along the edge and got several more with both rods, also a few on dries. Hit island on way out for so-so fishing for a couple of minutes. Jumped around to a few others for nothing special. While tammy was packing, headed up to mid lodge and fished the chart eyed olive leech and crushed several including some big tigers and bows.
