LC Ranch May 10, 2014
Date / Time: May 10 early am through early afternoon, then evening. Location: LC Ranch The Characters: Kory K. Matt Olson, Steve Frank Weather: High clouds, calm in the a.m. gradually clouding up and gusty winds. Highs in the 60s Water Temp: High 40s guessing Water Level: Ponds were all full except fisher creek that I saw Water Clarity/Quality: Cabin slight cloudy tint, upper lizard same. Upper, upper lizard brown tint, fisher creek cloudy tint. Moon Phase: Few days before full Best Flies: Parachute adams, cripple flav. brown bead, purple disco. Fishing: Fished early a.m. on dog solo while waiting for Matt and Steve. Fish were up sporadically on midges and callibaetis. Fished the P.A. and they were more than willing, very unselective and would move for it. Got one killer fish that went ballistic in the flat opposite of the ramp that went well into backing. Matt and Steve eventually showed up after I had slayed several and was experimenting on where was best. Dry was definitely best. Matt immediately hooked several off the ramp. I got Steve in the boat and we went to the inlet, but it was spotty and not as good as it should have been. Wind also kicked up but only gusty which was part of the issue. Got a few on the troll both on black beadhead uv leech and olive mohair chartreuse eye leech moving over to the far side where they were up better, then banged them good on the dry. Got them on various dries, with P.A. and flav cripple (my parachute cripple tie over pattern) best. Matt got them on regular adams and other patterns. Decided to check out some other ponds, so headed out. Made a few casts on Fisher Creek from south bank and got two tigers one on each leech, then nada. Decided to head to cabin to see if we could get one of the monsters. Walked the high bank, but didn’t see any. Swallows were working hard off the shallow shoals. Ended up getting a couple on the double bead rig, i got one and missed one and matt got a fat bow. No giants. Then headed to some smaller ponds to mix it up. Fished upper lizard, midges coming off but no eats either on bobber rig or streamer. Fished main lizard, nothing coming off, no eats, nada. Matt and Steve headed out after that. Tammy, Anna and I headed to check out Dog just to see if they were still up and sure enough going strong. I stuck and landed one quickly and then we headed back for a nap. I fished Dog in the evening with Jake and it was going strong with good risers. Still had on the flav cripple and they liked it. Stuck several and then the wind kicked in so headed home. Good day on dries, callibaetis coming off in sporadic numbers and good midges
