LC Ranch Wednesday December 24 - Thursday December 25, 2014
Date / Time: Wednesday, December 24 2014. Late afternoon to evening. Location: LC Ranch The Characters: Kory K. Weather: Calm, sunny on Christmas eve, snowing on Christmas day. Water Temp: High 30s guessing Water Level: Ponds were all full for the most part Water Clarity/Quality: Mostly clear Moon Phase: Few days after New Moon. Best Flies: Olive chartreuse eyed mohair leech, brown tail gold body crystal bugger with lead eyes. Light colored sculpin. Fishing: Went out for Christmas and there was still open water on the upper two lodge ponds amazingly. Some open water on Dog at the inlet and a small amount on cabin too. Christmas eve fished upper upper lodge and upper lodge and got into them pretty good on the brown tail crystal bugger including some big tigers. Tigers were fighting much better than rainbows, water temps super cold so didn’t expect much. Lots of followers and had to make the fly act just right. Better as it got later. Fished Christmas day for a few hours and it snowed quite a bit. Upper lodge slushed up so only option was upper, upper and dog. Fish were super picky, lots of follows an no eats for a while. Eventually got a few to eat on far side and missed it. Got one smaller tiger and then switched to the olive mohair. Fished it erratically a few casts and hooked a pig tiger. The fish absolutely ripped and was very difficult to land took several minutes, surprising in the cold water. Fun to fish on the holiday, usually don’t have the option of fishing the ponds. Took Anna sledding later for the first time and she loved it, fun Christmas!
