Lower Provo River 2-17-2013
Date / Time: February 17, 2013 Location: Lower Provo pockets and riffles below campground through Hoover. The Characters: Kory Weather: Mostly sunny high 30s low 40s breezy. Water Temp: High 30s guess Water Level: Low around 98 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: First quarter. Fishing: Headed down arrived around 1pm or so. Wind was kicking pretty good, but it was fairly warm. Walked down to the river straight down from Hoover parking. Got on the high bank opposite and spotted some fish in the deeper slower pocket behind rock. Rigged shallow rig with palsa, zebra lead, sow behind and micro midge behind that. Hooked several fish in slower edges and behind rocks. They ate each fly. Worked down through the pockets and hooked more on bead head in the pocket water and riffles. Still cold so many concentrated in slower areas. Jumped out and walked to hoover. Fished the riffle above and hooked a medium rainbow and then a fatty about 19-20 good battle killer shape fish. Worked down through the braids and hooked several more and headed out. There were a ton of midges coming off but didn’t look too hard for risers. Saw some in hoover, but sporadic.
