Lower Provo River 2-22-2014

Date / Time: Friday, February 22, 2014 Location: Lower Provo canyon section above hoover The Characters: Kory K and Lee K Weather: Mostly sunny, high 40s low 50s. Water Temp: High 30s guess Water Level: 97 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear Moon Phase: Last quarter Best Techniques: Nymphing and limited dries Best Flies: Sow bug #18, brown bead #16, trailing shuck midge #22 Fishing: Headed down with dad, got on water around 11 or so. Looked at access above campground, but it was packed so headed to Hoover access. A lot of cars there too, but went for it. Headed directly to pocket water, faster stuff since no people through there. Rigged shallow nymph and hooked two smaller fish right away. Rigged dad with dropper and he got a nice rainbow right off and then nice brown, good start. Fished up through the deeper slots around the pockets and got several more including a super nice bow. I was mostly getting them on the sow, dad had a brown bead dropper getting them on that. Found a few risers in the edges off the pockets up higher and got a couple on dries. They ate the BWO even though there were more midges. Fished up through meadow and back down and continued to get em on the sow mostly. Rigged dad on the shallow nymph eventually. Good day.
