Lower Provo River 3-16-2013

Bow-Belly

Date / Time: March 16th, 2013 Location: Lower Provo The Characters: Kory Weather: Mostly sunny high 30s low 40s breezy. Water Temp: High 30s guess Water Level: Low around 98 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: First quarter. Fishing: Bow-Belly Headed down for afternoon to look for BWOs. Got there around 12:30 or so and parked at Herring hole (last spot before road leaves river below pine run). Fished the flat right below there and initially not many bugs so put on a dropper, nada on dropper and started seeing a few risers so took it off. Fish were picky with low clear water but managed to get a decent rainbow about 15-16 on the trailing shuck cripple thing I have been fishing recently. Dude walked right in on me but got a few other eats and moved up through the pockets. Bugs were coming off decent and got several in the pockets. Saw a pig next to a rock in a tight spot and video’d it then made a cast and got it to eat first cast and missed. Worked up through lower pine, but dude so walked up saw PJ guiding BS’d for a bit thhen went back to pine run. Hatch winding down, hooked one but then left since we had a St. Paddys party. Good start to BWO season.
