Lower Provo River 3-16-2014

Date / Time: Sunday March 22, 2014 Location: Lower Provo canyon section above Pine Run The Characters: Kory K Weather: Mostly sunny, high clouds high 50s sporadic breeze. Water Temp: Low 40s guess Water Level: 97 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear Moon Phase: Full Moon Best Techniques: Dries Best Flies: Cripple emerger BWO #20, rabbits foot sparkle dun #20 Fishing: Headed down to the lower after hitting the Sportsmen’s expo with Tammy, Anna, BK and Becky so was a little later. Got on the water a little after 2pm and there were BWO’s coming off plus billions of midges. Fish were up pretty good, but somewhat hard to spot as is typical. Fished the tailout of the meadow hole for a bit but people around so headed up. Walked up above flat above pine run and deep hole and fished through the riffles through there. Fish were up and immediately got several including a nice bow and good mid sized browns. Not tons of BWOs but the fish were seeking them out, so if you found a riser they were pretty willing. Fished up through all of the riffle and pool water up to section below Hoover, nobody in any of it despite a nice weather Sunday. At first was fishing the cripple, then had some fish a little more reluctant so switched to the rabbits foot and they were on that pretty good. As hatch waned, worked back down fished a micro bead dropper and hooked a few but took it off as fish were still sporadically up. Eventually ended up in the big pool with the dead tree above. Fish were eating decent on far bank but seemed to be on midges as BWOs were gone, worked several flies and eventually got one on a bigger double hackle stacker midge. Called it a day on that fish.
