Weather was perfect for the hatch so I couldn’t resist and headed down getting there around 2:30. Saw Jerome leaving and told him he should stay.
Parked at Hoover and walked down to upper pocket fast water. Still had the shallow nymph on from day before so fished through holes above walk in. Dude was in upper but left and said didn’t get much. Fished that pool and hooked a nice super hot rainbow that ripped and eventually got off.
Few BWOs so switched but not that many. Worked down through pocket water and on to Hoover area and despite perfect overcast calm still very few bugs. Eventually walked down to tree hole above flat above pine run. Got in water and still just a few bugs, then slowly more and more and then it kicked in. Fish started going good and it was killer for an hour and a half or so. Several nice fish. A lot of fish were up in the dead pool water where people normally wade including some really nice fish. Got a dozen or so good fish all through the area, super hot good fighters good shape. Biggest prob around 18”. Great afternoon. Fish were picky and ultimately the size 20 dark visadun slayed. I noticed the bodies of the bugs were dark and they were refusing my typical lighter body patterns. Odd year for fly selection so far, picky fish with low clear water.
