Lower Provo River 4-2-2013
Date / Time: April 4th, 2013 Location: Lower Provo The Characters: Kory Weather: Partly sunny, high 40s low 50s breezy. Water Temp: Low 40s guess. Water Level: Low around 98 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: Day after full. Fishing: Looked to be overcast, so couldn’t resist. Headed down around 2 got there around 3 but ended up being sunny. Went straight to herring, and walked up. Wind was gusting fairly strong, virtually no bugs other than midges a few baetis here and there maybe hatch was earlier? Fished around the riffles below herring as I spotted some good fish, but only hooked one and lost it. Walked up to look for risers, checked out the big rock eddy that is on river left below pines and there were a couple of risers in there but sporadic. Didn’t get any of those so walked up into pines. No fish up other than here and there super sporadic so I decided to try shallow dropper micro bead midge since I was spotting fish all over in the shallows.
First cast with #18 camel bead eat, miss. Fished up through and virtually every fish would eat it instantly but I was having trouble hooking. Eventually hooked and landed some nice ones and also got some on the purple disco small. Was dropping it only about 12 inches under a dry. Tons of fish stacked in shallows and most would eat the beadhead immediately. Caught a bunch of good fish including some good bows and left around 6pm.
