Lower Provo, Utah Sunday, January 18, 2015
Date / Time: Sunday, January 18, 2015 Location: Lower Provo Campground Area The Characters: KK Weather: High clouds, calm, warmer mid to high 30s Water Temp: Mid 30s guess Water Level: 100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear, still some moss. Moon Phase: Full Moon Hatches: Some midges, very few Best Flies: Sow bug, bigger size 18 Fishing: Weather continued to be unusually warm for January with many days in the low 50s and since it was the weekend and Tammy was good with hanging with Anna and me taking the day, I headed to the lower. Got on the water around 11 and it was super nice, but colder in the canyon. Probably low to mid 30s. There were fishermen around, but not too bad. People in satellite hole and a few up higher but nobody in Gomez so I headed straight there. Being that the previous trip my dad and I had got into them pretty good I went straight there. I had the same rig on even and I immediately hooked a nice bow, fought it for a while and lost it. After that, hooked several more fish and landed some nice bows and lost several others. All fish pretty much on the sow. Eventually decided to throw streamers and just see what happened. Fished a variety of stuff and got several follows, and one quick eat but they weren’t really on it. Gold beadhead blood leech got as much attention as anything. Eventually worked down to middle of the campground proper and fished the glide below the upper hole where the river comes together. Worked it over and eventually foul hooked a few and maybe hooked one or two others natural basically didn’t dial it in. Eventually went back up to Gomez hooked a few more, bounced up through and hooked one in little side slot above satellite and that was it. Headed out around 4:30. Good day, mostly in Gomez.
