Lower Provo, Utah Sunday, January 4, 2015
Date / Time: Sunday, January 4, 2015 Location: Lower Provo Hoover, then Campground Area The Characters: KK & Dad Weather: High clouds, calm, cold 20-25. Water Temp: Mid 30s guess Water Level: 100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear, still some moss. Moon Phase: Full Moon Hatches: Some midges, very few Best Flies: Sow bug, bigger size 18 Fishing: Headed down mid day arriving around noon. Temp was still only 19 degrees when we got on, but sun peeked out and it was not too bad. Fished above Hoover in few holes initially and hooked a few on sows, but not great. Dad hooked a few in top of Hoover. Decided to go up by campground and parked at the gate and walked down. First big hole had too much moss to fish effectively at this level, fished the little drop on the left below that and hooked several mostly small to medium browns and bows. Kept fouling them and losing them, landed a couple. Worked down and eventually ended up in Gomez and found a few areas free of moss and hammered them good on the sow bug. Was fishing a shallow rig with one split, a large tungsten brown bead and the sow behind it. Couple ate the big brown bead, eventually lost the third fly since it wasn’t getting eaten. Landed a couple of nice rainbows and browns and a bunch of smaller fish. Lost quite a few. Dad didn’t really get it dialed in and was getting cold so we headed out around 4. Good day for this dead of winter.
