Lower Provo, Utah Tuesday, February 3, 2015
Date / Time: Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015 Location: Lower Provo: Below Hoover through Campground The Characters: KK & Jason Curry Weather: High clouds, calm, warmer low 50s Water Temp: Mid 30s guess Water Level: 100 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear, still some moss. Moon Phase: Full Moon Hatches: Some midges, very few Best Flies: Sow bug, bigger size 18 Fishing: Continued ridiculous warm weather. Tammy’s parents and Kat were in Midway staying at a timeshare, so they offered to watch Anna and I met up with Curry who was able to take the afternoon off. Parked at the hill above Hoover and walked down to the runs above the pine run. Initially fished the bend pool a hole below the channel confluence area. Pounded it in the deep slot and wasn’t hooking any so moved around until I found them in the upper end. Hooked several browns and bows there on the sow, not on fire but decent. A few on midge stuff too I think. Jason was deeper fishing the egg and hooked some fish in the upper fast stuff, but nothing on fire either. Walked up and around hoover area since people were around and noticed many fish in super shallow edge water. Nymphed some deeper pockets at the top of the fast section and got one big bow. After that, spotted one in shallow water and hooked it immediately on the sow. Eventually decided to go super shallow and fish the edges as we got into the lower campground. Found a pocket of fish stacked in shallow water and hooked a bunch there on the sow including several nice rainbows and one real big bow that I lost to rolling and breaking off of the fly. Eventually caught up with Jason at the houses and fished a bit there, looked at Gomez and there was a guy there so headed back. I threw streamers and may have had one eat, but they were not on it. Good day overall, mainly shallow sow. Micro bead dropped under parachute prob would have been a good call.
