Date / Time: 6/14/09 Location: Long Island North Shore: Caumsett State Park The Characters: Kory Kapaloski, Karl Andersen Weather: Partly Sunny mid 70s in the day, cool evening in the 60s Water Temp: 60’s (guess) Water Level / Tide: Low tide 4:00 p.m. high tide around 11 p.m. Water Clarity/Quality: perfect Headed to Caumsett last night again. Left work around 1 came home, got the car and headed out. Of course, hit heavy traffic immediately took 30 minutes to get across town. Hit traffic again on the L.I.E. and was going to skirt it on the Grand Central but of course that was backed up too. I needed to make it out there to buy the pass by 4 p.m. and I got to the gate at 3:58 unreal! Got the pass and took a look at the water. Not much happening, did see one fish working under some birds. After heading to town for a bite, came back and geared up. Worked my way along the beach, but didn’t see any sign of fish. Went all the way back to the pond outlet as it was draining. Fished up where it was draining into the sound for nothing despite a great looking heavy current. Went all the way into the little pinch and saw an occasional fish explode. Ended up getting a handful of small schoolies on various sandeels, but no fish of size. Worked back out to the rip, but no sign of fish. Fished the rip for a couple of bluefish and robins and that was it. Walked around looking for fish as the tide started in, but nothing materialized.
