Provo River, Utah: March 12, 2010
Date / Time: 3/12/2009 Location: Lower Provo River The Characters: Kory Kapaloski, Brian Kapaloski Weather: Mostly sunny Water Temp: 38-39 (guess) Water Level / Tide: Low 100 cfs or so and stable Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal Clear Moon Phase: Last quarter, tail end Fishing: Drove back from the Green early a.m. with Dad and met Brian at TB2. Drove down to the lower, got there around 12:30. Fished the main pool in the campground since nobody was there. Bugs just started when we got there and there were some good fish up on the far bank and down in the tailout. I landed two decent fish on the far bank and BK hooked and lost a few in the tailout that were pretty nice. Some guys started moving in so we headed out and went down river. We parked below the pine run and walked up. Fished the eddies in the pocket water and stuck some good fish although I missed and lost most of them including a pretty good fish that I had spotted from above before we got in the water. He was in shallow water in a tough spot right where people walk in and out when there isn’t snow. BK stuck several fish as well and lost most until the tail end when he got some good ones. Ultimately we had about 15 or more eat between us in the one eddy. All of these were on BWO’s. They ate the big para polywing and a new duck wing that I got at TB2. We worked our way up into the pine run but the hatch was waning. Went up to my favorite flat and there were some good fish up. Stuck and landed a small one and then stuck a big fish in the shallows and lost it. The remaining fish were super sporadic and I couldn’t get them to eat although i only tried a couple of patterns. BK got one more good one he worked for a while in a pocket up higher and one other in the main tree hole above the flat. After that we worked our way back down to the pine run where I stuck another nice one and lost it. Went back to the eddies and stuck some more and lost most. Landed one more smallish fish in a pocket eddy and we headed out. A good day and fun to fish with my bro although i farmed and missed the majority of my fish. Out of about 30 eats I landed only a half dozen or so and some of the fish i missed or lost were good fish…oh well a little rusty since I hadn’t fished all winter.
