Rhode Island: False Albacore 9-1-09

**Date / Time:**9-1-09 Location: Rhode Island Watch Hill, Fisher’s Island The Characters: Kory Kapaloski, Jeremy Cameron Weather: Partly cloudy,  mostly sunny Water Temp: Mid 60s or so Water Level / Tide: Low around 4:00 p.m. I think Water Clarity/Quality: Clear, crystal on the outside a little green inside. Moon Phase: 4 days before full Fishing: Got word that there were albies around last week. Monday heard that some were caught off breezy and shorecatch had a report of ridiculous albie fishing in jersey, Karl talked to McCarthy and he said they were all over out east. I called Jeremy who I knew was in RI and he ended up having nobody to fish with Tuesday after getting into them good Monday. Weather forecast was as good as it could possibly be so I had to go and headed up Tuesday morning. I thought that it was going to be good, but what I witnessed was absolutely insane. Nonstop albie blitzes all day long in flat calm, glass conditions from the moment we started fishing to sunset when we stopped. Absolutely incredible. So many fish and so much bait they would stay up in one spot like bass just shredding the bait. First cast just getting line out 20 feet from the boat while stripping line off my reel I was hooked up. Landed that fish, was holding the line over the boat wake on our way to set up for the next blitz and another one nailed it on our boat wake. Since we were filming video and it was so ridiculous we wouldn’t even cast until the sun was at our back, the fish were at 12 o’clock and absolutely frothing. We caught more than I could remember. The fish were a little more selective later in the day, but still ate the surf candy quite well. In the morning on the tip of fisher’s though it was unreal. One of the best saltwater days I have had. Got some good footage of J on a rock casting to breaking fish but no hook up. Had several take the fly right by the boat if you just dropped the fly in.
