Sevier River, Utah: March 19, 2011

Date / Time: 3/19/2011 Location: Sevier River East Fork and Main The Characters: Kory Kapaloski, Tammy Stevenson Weather: Super windy and partly cloudy Water Temp: high 30s (guess) Water Level / Tide: East fork was a trickle below Otter Creek. Main was high below paiute. Water Clarity/Quality: East fork off color, Main Stem pretty clear in upper end then muddy below. Moon Phase: Just before full Fishing: Mostly a scouting trip after leaving Torrey we headed over and I checked out Otter Creek which was a little high, but I prob should have fished since there were likely bows in there. Looked at the reservoir which I wanted to fish since it was recently iced off, but the howling wind had it all churned up so i didn’t bother. Looked at the river below and it was a trickle. Made a few casts in a few spots but wasn’t really feeling it. Drove down through Kingston Canyon and saw the new access which looks great (hadn’t been there in about 20 years). There were a few people here and there. Drove down and looked at paiute reservoir and the inflow which was super high and off color. The reservoir actually looked pretty good, but it was super windy. I saw a sheltered cove but didn’t go for it (should have). Checked out the river below the reservoir and it looked awesome and i pounded it with nymphs for nada for about an hour. I remembered that they dewatered that stretch and bailed. Fished the outlet pool and foul hooked one mid size fish and lost it. Headed down river and checked out Marysvale which didn’t have much this time of year so we bailed out. Drove along the river below there and it looked great, but it was all off color. Will definitely go back.
