Date / Time: Friday, June 13th, 2014 12-4 pm February Location: South fork ogden river below Causey, lower end. The Characters: Kory, Anna & Zach Watkins Weather: Sunny and warm. Water Temp: Mid 50s guess Water Level: Coming down around 65 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear Moon Phase: One day after full moon Best Flies: #16 bead head caddis pupa with green butt dropper, KK caddis partridge, cdc & poly wing with grey body #16 Fishing: Went to check it out with Zach after debating where to go. Thought there might be salmonflies since water had been coming down and they were out on the Henry’s Fork. Got there around 12:30 or so and took a took a look, no salmonflies but caddis all over the place. Small, brachycentrus typical #16-#18 greyish. Checked out a few access points and found a pull off below the first campgrounds. Spotted a couple of pigs in that pool and spooked them. Fished dry dropper initially since that is what I had rigged with stone dropper. Didn’t see any rise at first and since there were so many caddis switched to the caddis dropper, one of the one’s i had tied earlier in the season. It was the smallest that I had, on a 16 I think but bugs were closer to 18. Immediately started hooking fish and got a handful of decent fish on the drop. As I worked up, noticed a few splashy risers on the edge and got the first on the drop. Then, as I looked closer noticed a pig in shallow water on the edge of some fast water sipping caddis. Decided to switch over and ended up spooking that one, but got another to eat. We then ran into another guy and decided to relocate. Went downriver to an obvious pull out with a pool right by the road. As we got into the river, fish were all over and exploding on caddis in that pool. I fished down, but didn’t see any so worked up. Zach missed several and I hopscotched around him into the top of the pool. Fish were up throughout the pool and pretty selective. Then working through the fastwater noticed they were up all over in fast pockets. Worked up and nailed several good fish on my caddis. Biggest was about 18-19. Zach spotted a bigger one, and fished it and missed him. Worked up through all the pockets picking a few off and ultimately found a pig rising under some willows. Zach missed him twice and then I missed him and we never did get him. We left soon after that and they were still going good. Probably would have been a slayfest until dark. There were several going right in the pool in front of the truck as we were leaving.
