South Fork Ogden River Below Causey June 14th, 2016
Date / Time: Tuesday, June 14th, 2014 11:30-3 pm Location: South Fork Ogden River in canyon below Causey Reseroir The Characters: Kory & Anna Weather: Partly sunny, 70s Water Temp: Low 50s guess Water Level: Around 75 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear Moon Phase: First quarter two days previous Best Flies: KK caddis #18 Fishing: Went up with Anna and had a picnic on the tailgate and then put her in the pack. There were caddis on the water right when we got there and we were in the pullout on the high bank by the no trespassing signs. I looked at an overhanging willow just up from the deep hole and sure enough good fish working. After lunch, I walked up with her and crossed an watched down but think I spooked that fish. Saw one other above it and stuck it and lost it smaller one around 13-14. Worked up and never found anymore risers so just started blind casting and had 4 or 5 eats doing that but missed and lost all of them. One was a big fish in one of the holes. Worked my way back down but didn’t see anything. Anna wanted to leave and I didn’t really get to fish too hard and blew my shots but they were around. Had I been hard solo fishing it would likely have been very good. All fish on my standby combo caddis in an olive 18. Drove around and looked at campsites for future reference and headed back down stopping at Botts to just let Anna out and ride her bike and take one last look. Walked over to the river and nothing visibly up and only sporadic caddis but it was a killer bank so I made a couple casts in a little slot above some willows and a good fish inhaled the fly. Battled it and it fought good trying to dig under the trees and ultimately landed it with Anna wandering around on the bank. She kept wandering away and I had to tell her to come back. I landed the fish and walked it up to her and she petted it and took a fake picture and I released it. Good solid 17 healthy fish. Called it a day on that and played with Anna for a bit on her bike around the campground and headed out.
