South Fork Ogden River Below Causey June 19th, 2014
Date / Time: Thursday, June 19th, 2014 3-6 pm Location: South Fork Ogden River in canyon below Causey Reseroir The Characters: Kory & Anna Weather: Most sunny, 70s Water Temp: Low 50s guess Water Level: Around 70 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear Moon Phase: Last quarter Best Flies: KK caddis #16 Fishing: Took Anna for a few hrs in the afternoon after hitting it the week previous in epic caddis hatch. Caddis were thick again, but had moved up the canyon and weren’t as thick lower. Looked around and decided to fish around Perception campground. First got in the water and tons of bugs, but never saw any fish then realized I was fishing behind someone. Got out and walked up and around to bridge at meadows campground. Finally spotted a good fish coming up under some willows. Fished him for about 5 minutes, eventually to the drift and he ate. Good battle, good fish about 16-17 and super fat. Worked up a little more, but was in the campground and people around so bailed. Checked out down river and found a riser while scouting but instead of fishing went a little further down and fished water Zach and I had hit week previous. Saw one or two, but nothing regular and Anna was getting over it so headed out. There were a lot fewer bugs down river and I should have headed up instead. On way out, checked out upper river and sure enough still tons of bugs. Saw a pig under some trees near one of the pull outs, but Anna was asleep and it was time to head home. Good time catching the one fish, but had I stayed up high would have done better. Hatch was super thick in area around upper campgrounds.
