Strawberry River Below Starvation 6-3-2012

Date / Time: 6-3-2012 Location: Strawberry below starvation lower access above bridge on dam road. The Characters: Solo Weather: Sunny high 70s breezy Water Temp: low to mid 40s guess Water Level: Release listed at 350 on usbr and flows at usgs showed 150 Water Clarity/Quality: Clear. Moon Phase: Day before full. Fishing: Headed down in afternoon after taking care of a few things in am at LC. Got there around 1pmish. Cars in all parking areas except only one dude at bridge. Parked on side of dirt road and hiked down hill. Fishing was spotty, fished cicada with various droppers, best performer was #12 sparkle body stonefly out of UV dub and goose biot. Tons of PMD nymphs on the drift but very little action on smaller droppers. A sally coming off here and there, very little PMDs. Got one eat on Cicada, no other dry action. No real big fish on dropper and had to work for them. Saw quite a few on edges, with the higher water, but kept spooking them. Some that I saw and drifted over ignored my flies. Nymphed eventually and even then didn’t do great should have went deeper maybe or tried some dirty worm stuff? Overall, slow day with a dozen or so hooked.
