Strawberry River Below Starvation August 16, 2015

Date / Time: Sunday, August 16 2015 Location: Strawberry below starvation reservoir S curves to spillway 1-4 or so The Characters: KK solo Weather: Sunny, very windy. Temps in low 80s. Water Temp: Guessing low 60s Water Level: Around 350 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal Moon Phase: 2 days after new moon Hatches: PMDs, Some caddis and sallies Best Flies: X Caddis, Rusty Spinner, PMD emerger, Floating PMD nymph Fishing: Fished afternoon on way back from guiding Green don’t remember exact details of why. Jeannie watching Anna Tammy working on Sunday. Fished X Caddis blind initially since I saw a few caddis and got a couple eats and missed them. Found a pod opposite the spillway above the rock on the grassy bank but they were super selective. Got one to eat a rusty but missed it and then couldn’t get those to eat again after an hour of trying everything. Found one more below there below where it hits the cliff and got it to eat a PMD emerger pretty easily but missed it. Found one more riser back down above S curves in the boils and managed to get a drift with the floating PMD nymph despite the fish moving all over and the boils making for difficult drifts. That fish ate and I stuck and landed it and left. There were tons of bugs and it probably got good especially if the wind died, but I had to head back.
