Strawberry Below Starvation August 5, 2014

S curves to few pools below dam The Characters: KK and Zach Watkins Weather: Partly cloudy, sporadic T storms. 70s. Water Temp: High 50s guess **Water Level:**302 cfs Water Clarity/Quality: Clear **Moon Phase:**2 days after First Quarter Hatches: PMDs, Sallies, Sporadic Caddis, Midges **Best Flies:**Cripple PMDs, Yellow PMD Spinner, Floating PMD nymph, PMD nymph copper bead, Yellow Sally Fishing: Writing this several weeks late. so details fuzzy. Jeannie met Zach and I in Duchesne to pick up Anna and then met us at end of day to drop her off. Got on water around noon and fish were already up on the PMDs. There were several dudes around though including a couple of guide trips. We found a few risers on the S curves fishing on side of the risers but put those down. Worked up and there were fish up in the Rosenbauer bend and I think I got one of those. Worked up and spotted fish here and there, but dudes also here and there. Hopscotched a bunch of water and went way upriver. Bugs started coming off thick, but weren’t seeing a ton of risers. Got stuck on a glassy pool way up high but were fishing it from the wrong side and didn’t get those. Went back down to cliff area and found fish in the grassy edge above where Zach got a good one. I worked the cliff fish and think I ended up getting one in there. Got schooled by a few others. Worked down and found a few here and there including getting another one in the Rosenbauer bend. Ultimately fished the swirls above the S curves and missed a couple and got worked by a few. It had rained and now sun back out and sallies coming off all over. Despite that I continued with PMDs and got a little worked by rising fish. Zach came back and said he had several crush the sally which made me think I should have fished it. I still didn’t and got one more on the spinner in the S curves. Overall good day, killer PMD hatch but dudes messed that up somewhat although we found risers. I kept missing and putting fish down though and getting schooled because I didn’t change to sally at end.
