Utah Green 6-29-2013

Date / Time: 6-29-2013. Location: B section float back to C section camp. The Characters: Kory, Tammy, Brian, Jason, Rebekah, Joe, Cara, Matt, Pam Weather: Sunny and super hot. T storms in afternoon and windy. Water Temp: High 50s guess. Water Level: 800-900 during the day. Up to about 1700 around 6pm. Water Clarity/Quality: Crystal clear. Moon Phase: Last quarter. Bugs: Giant cicadas, sallies, caddis, pmds. Fishing: Fished a bit around camp early in the morning with dropper and got a handful of fish nothing real big, couple decent rainbows. Big brown bead best fly I think. Headed up to Dutch John for later float to meet guides (Tom and Chad) for Matt, Pam, Joe, Cara at 11am. Got on the water a little after noon and giant thunderhead was looming but it was nice. Giant Cicadas had been going off for a few weeks and there were quite a few around. We started off fishing the giant and immediately were into fish on my pattern and Brian’s. Jason and Rebekah were getting them good on my fly. We stopped at bottom of Minnesota and fish were going off on sallies so I stuck a few on that. We went back and forth between small fly (triple double light colored) and giant cicada. Problem with big cicada was fish bleeding from being hooked deep so we kept switching. Got some killer fish though and fights were awesome, better than ever. Lots of rainbows in the mix but lots of killer fat browns. Below red creek got some big fish to eat but didn’t land any true giants got some nice ones and some super cool eats. Good day. Got to bottom as t storms and wind started to kick in so didn’t get to fish long lake or a lot of the bottom water because of that. We were planning on hinich picking us up with my truck for BK’s boat (we texted him and figured good). He wasn’t there and ultimately he came down without a trailer so I had to ride all the way back to Little Hole and get my truck. Got back around 8:30 or so and fished for a bit, but t storms messed up evening. All in all a kick ass day until t storms.
