Weber Henefer Area 5-19-2013
Headed to the Weber later in the day for a few hours. Got there around 4pm. Decided to fish below Echo Reservoir since they have been doing dam repairs and for the first time that I remember it was clear coming out when I drove over it a week or so previous. Also looked at the flows and it was about 200 cfs after being about 400, so it was ideal conditions. Got off on the Henefer exit and drove down to the access right above the sewage treatment ponds. Water was good color, not clear but only tinted. There is a big diversion where you get to the water but I walked down to a nice, obvious hole. Rigged triple nymph with maroon, chartreuse eye leech in the lead with worm behind and prince behind that. Hooked a few in bottom of pool and lost then hooked a fat, super hot 18 killer brown on the leech nice fish. Worked through the pool and hooked a few more medium-ish fish on the prince a few on the drop at the top. Also hooked a few whities and fortunately lost them. Decided to switch to the streamer and work back through. Fished the olive and black sculpin and immediately had several fish slash at it and grab it, kept missing and losing them. Eventually landed one 15 incher on it, but some bigger fish definitely hammered it. Put the leech combo back on this time with black leech and bead prince and worked up. First small riffly pool hooked several more on the prince and leech, one more sweet 18 incher and a few small to mediums. Walked up to diversion and hooked a giant below it that ripped the hell out of me on the leech, taped it at 22” killer fish. Hooked one more good one there and then walked to the top of the pool forming the diversion. Hooked several more in there on the bead prince one on the leech and switched to the streamer to work back down and surprisingly no more. Good, fun evening session.
